Virtual Conversations With the Field 2: How Family and Friends Can Reconnect with Native Teachings & Create Healing Spaces With & For Native LGBTQ2S Relatives
The National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center, the Avellaka Program, the National LGBTQ Institute on IPV, and the National Resource Center on Domestic Violence invite family and friends, Native 2S/LGBTQ survivors, and advocates to join one of our upcoming Virtual Conversations With the Field (CWTFs) focused on how families and friends respond to Native 2S/LGBTQ victim-survivors of domestic violence. The goals of the CWTFs are to engage in conversations and gather feedback on the following:
- families and friends serving as the first line of defense for the growth, protection, support and help for Native 2S/LGBTQ victim-survivors of domestic violence;
- how families and friends can help reduce isolation of Native 2S/LGBTQ victim-survivors of domestic violence, assist with safety planning, avoid victim-blaming, and provide validation, encouragement and long-term support; and
- gather feedback for the development of a Native 2S/LGBTQ toolkit for family and friends including available resources for Native 2S/LGBTQ victims-survivors of domestic violence (expected release: Fall 2021). What we learn from these conversations will help inform policy, recommendations, and toolkit development for family and friends to respond to Native 2S/LGBTQ victim-survivors of domestic violence.
